LDS / Mormon : Any of you ever tried to prove the BOM to be true?

Actually lose their faith. For instance Thomas Stuart Ferguson was devout on proving it true. When lack of evidence forced him to lose his faith. Would any of you faithful believers even attempt at trying to prove the stories in the Book of Mormon to be factual events. I ask this because I think you would rather not try to prove it with any hard evidence and simply believe it because your religion tells you to.
