Was ending things the answer?? Help!!!?

Dated a guy for 2 months. It was intensely romantic & fun. Great chemistry, deeply intimate (but not yet ually). We were very good to each other. Met his family & friends. Then one day he says let's just be friends, I respect you too much, but I don't want a relationship. I took it VERY well. It sounde dlike h wasn't ready to move forward. So slowing down was fine with me. Well, for the next month, he continued to call and text to say hello. He would often tell me how amazing I am, how much he loves me, and that he wants to be in my life, even suggested rekindling later. Just timing is bad. But he would also say I'm not the girl for him, he doesn't think it will work out. This was very painful and confusing. I couldn't tell if I neede to move on or just be patient!!! So I very nicely asked him to stop contacting me. He has honored my request. But I'm so heartbroken. Don't know if I read the situation right. . .Any insight or suggestions as to what to do/not do??
