What vaccinations do older less active dogs need?

I would keep his rabies up to date for sure, then talk to the vet about his other recommendations based on lifestyle and geography. New research suggests that several parts of the 5 (or 6 or 7)-way distemper shot last for three or more years, while other parts are still recommended as annual vaccinations. Rabies is a legal requirement to keep current, and I would recommend the 5-way distemper every three years. Those are the "core vaccines". Talk to your vet about Lyme disease and kennel cough (bordatella and corona). He will probably recommend staying current (annual) on the Lyme and that his minimal contact with other dogs makes either of the kennel cough vaccinations unnecessary for him. Keep him on parasite preventatives.
