Radiation Dosimeter reads 5, should I tell boss?

At my work I have been given a radiation dosimeter. I have been told nothing about what it is or does. The scale ranges from 0 to 50. Mine is at 5 and I have only had the radiation dosimeter for a month. I was told that 5 is the limit but nothing else. I work with uranium in rocks.
